“Despite It All!”

Despite my failings,
my shortcomings and shame.
Despite my choices
from which heartaches did rain.

 Despite the coldness
of my sometimes failing heart.
Despite the right path
of which I did depart.

 Despite the apples
on the tree.
Despite the way
my sin views me.

 Despite the world’s
proffered delicacies.
Despite the lies
on which I did feed.

 Despite it all,
despite the mess.
Despite the feeling
of total brokenness.

 He brought me out;
and for His glory,
restored me wholly,
magnifying His love story.

“Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit,” Psalm 51:12

“God’s Word Gives Light!”

Light was designed to dispel darkness.  In the beginning when it was originally created and now also.  No matter if the light is an artificial source such as a lamp, flashlight or candle, or if it be the illumination of the sun; all light’s purpose is to shine and make known what one normally wouldn’t be able to see in the dark.

The writer of Psalm 119:105 declared, “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.”  Traveling the course of this world can at times get a bit tricky.  Navigating through the winding roads of decisions and choices can be daunting.  But, then, the opening of God’s Word brings that which was once obscured into the open, revealing the path to follow, if used.

How oft do we forget when it comes to the cares of this life; when we come upon a fork in the road, there His Word shows the best course of action?  2 Timothy 3:16-17 shows us, “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.”  God’s Word is the answer to all.  Every question, every choice, every pondering of the spirit finds an answer covered in the “inspiration of God.”

Where the Word is allowed to operate understanding has a chance to thrive.  Psalm 119:130 says, “The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding to the simple.”  Be reassured that God’s Word can illuminate your life.  God’s Word can open up your understanding and help you find your way.  Trust that God’s Word gives light today!

“Today, I Walk!”

“I will walk before the Lord in the land of the living,” Psalm 116:9, KJV

The way one walks says a lot about them.  When I’m grocery shopping I’m a beast.  My walk is hard for my family to keep up with (which is why I shop alone, for the most part).  I can hit five or six different stores in one day of grocery shopping (I know prices by heart and refuse to pay more for it or I want a certain store brand – pray for me :)).  The way I walk shows everyone in my path, “I don’t play!”

You are identified by how you walk.  You can tell if someone is tired by the way they walk.  They may seem just a little slower and less focused due to exhaustion.  If someone walks with a limp they can be identified as being sore or perhaps injured.  A straight, persistent gait can imply confidence.  Someone with pep in their step can give the impression of happiness.  People pay attention to the way you walk.

People are not the only ones who pay attention to our walk.  God is watching each life that goes before Him.  That’s what the word walk means in the Bible.  It speaks of one’s life or conversation.  Their daily day-to-day affairs.  Colossians 1:10 exhorts us, “That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing.” (KJV).  Your walk matters.

The psalmist knew to whom he was living.  He did not possess his own life.  He did not own his own steps.  While he strode across the face of this earth, “in the land of the living,” he was walking “before the Lord.”

How many days do we waste living our days for other people?  How much stress do we put on ourselves to please other people?  It’s okay to work in cooperation with others, but we don’t live or walk for them!

Choose today to live and walk before the Lord.  Being a people pleaser will mess up your stride.  If you really want to advance spiritually and in this world, live your life “before the Lord.”  His opinion is the only one that matters.

Free yourself from the chains and shackles of people’s approval.  If you are straight with God – then, you are straight!  He’s the one that loves you!  He’s the one that saved you!  He’s the one that brought you to this new day.  Use it to walk “before the Lord!”
