God’s Word is Bond | Trusting in the Integrity of God

“Say unto them, As I live, saith the Lord God, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked; but that the wicked turn from his way and live…” Ezekiel 33:11

When trying to reach people with the truth of the gospel, one of the rebuttals you will often hear is something like, “If that is true, and if God really loves us and doesn’t want anyone in hell, then why doesn’t He just spare everyone? If a person is generally good, why doesn’t God just let them go into heaven?”

Back in the day, there was a saying: “A man’s word is his bond.” A simple handshake and a spoken promise were good enough. In those symbols of agreement, that man’s integrity spoke for him.

One thing we always want to know when it comes to the Word of God is that we can trust every part of it, the good and the bad. If someone’s entrance into heaven was fudged, or the fact that even if they were a good person but refused Jesus Christ as Lord was overlooked, then the integrity of God, of His character, and Word would be questioned.

But God’s Word is His bond, my friend. Everything He spoke, for good or bad, for blessing or judgment, will come to pass. We can trust in every part of it because of the fact that it is never fudged, overlooked, taken lightly, or acted as if it really doesn’t matter.

Every part of God’s Word matters!

The Bible has not been put together as the inspired word of God (2 Timothy 3:16) to be a good read (although it is). It is life’s instruction book. In it, we see the blessings of obedience and the perils of disobedience (Deuteronomy 28; Leviticus 26).

Whether or not one chooses to believe it and follow it does not negate its integrity.

When we turn to the Word of God for wisdom, instruction, life, promises, and salvation, we want to know that every bit of it, every jot and tittle, is an unmovable truth that we can hold on to (Matthew 5:18).

If bits and pieces were overlooked or disregarded by the Author of the Word, then how could we trust in the rest?

God’s Word has been written and recorded through vessels He has specifically chosen (2 Tim. 3:16; 2 Pet. 1:20, 21). In those blessed pages are His story of history, His love for people, His expectations, and His desire for all men to be saved (2 Peter 3:9).

That is God’s ultimate desire: to see people flood the gates of glory, come and be where He is, to live in sweet, holy communion with Him forever and ever.

For that to happen, there must be an answer for the sin that broke the fellowship in the first place.

Why? Because everything goes back to His integrity. In His integrity, we must understand that God is above all else holy. In His holiness, He CANNOT dwell with sin. That can never change.

In His Word, God shows us His plan of salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ: “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me” (John 14:6). He shows us the pathway to come out of sin and to walk in the new life He desires for all people.

But it is people who must choose whether to believe, accept, and turn to this truth. God does not force anyone, and He does not bypass their free will.

The choice is always ours. In that, the integrity of God’s Word will always stand sure.

God’s Word is there for our benefit, so that we can know, believe, accept, and stand on everything He has spoken, knowing that He will never change or fudge one bit of it (Malachi 3:6; James 1:17; Numbers 23:19). It is your solid foundation that stands surer than any handshake ever could.

So, when God’s word promises abundant life (John 10:10), we can believe it. When it promises freedom, peace, joy, comfort of spirit, or any host of things, my friend, we can believe it. When it promises eternal life to those who turn to Him, we can be assured that it shall be ours.

Why?

Because everything He spoke in His Word is sure and all will come to pass (Isaiah 55:11; Joshua 21:45).

Who Shall Disannul it?

Isaiah 14:27 asks the question, “For the LORD of hosts hath purposed, and who shall disannul it? and his hand is stretched out, and who shall turn it back?” Furthermore, Psalms 33:11 states, “The counsel of the LORD standeth for ever, the thoughts of his heart to all generations.”  When God has a set course marked out for your life, or for anything for that matter, it shall come to pass.  It would be futile for any to try to work or speak against His plans.

Our world is inundated with all kinds of ways to get rid of what we don’t like or agree with.  Hence, the infamous delete button.

Don’t like what you see?  Delete it.  Don’t like what you hear?  Delete it.  Don’t like whatever is before you?  Somewhere, somehow there is a way to delete or ignore what it is.

That’s the world we live in.  Sadly, the convenience of the delete button has skewered many people’s views about the world, God, and the way things truly are or work.

But let me let you in on a little secret God’s Word is bond.  It cannot be broken.  It cannot be altered.  And it cannot be annulled.

In the midst of “cancel culture,” this is a good thing.  This should be a great encouragement to us because it literally means that not only will every standard of God stand, but it also means every promise of God will also stand.  No matter what, it cannot and will not be erased, wiped out, abolished, or made void.  God, and His Word, will never be canceled!

While the thoughts of man are vain and futile (Psalm 94:11), God’s Word is a sure foundation to build your life on, to hope and believe for every good and perfect thing He says to you.  “Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away” (Matthew 24:35).

“And the LORD said unto Moses, Is the LORD’S hand waxed short? thou shalt see now whether my word shall come to pass unto thee or not.” – Numbers 11:23

“For ever, O Lord, thy word is settled in heaven.  Thy faithfulness is unto all generations: thou hast established the earth, and it abideth.” – Psalm 119:89-90

“So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.” – Isaiah 55:11

“Then said the Lord unto me, Thou hast well seen: for I will hasten my word to perform it.” – Jeremiah 1:12

“For I am the LORD: I will speak, and the word that I shall speak shall come to pass; it shall be no more prolonged: for in your days, O rebellious house, will I say the word, and will perform it, saith the Lord GOD.” – Ezekiel 12:25

“Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;)” – Hebrews 10:23

Nothing Random

Photo from Pixabay

Now a certain man drew a bow at random, and struck the king of Israel between the joints of his armor . . .” 1 Kings 22:34, NKJV

Random.  Coincidence.  Left to chance.  Not with God.  The Bible clearly tells us what the Lord speaks will accomplish its purpose (Isaiah 55:11).  As told in Ezekiel 12:25, He says, “For I am the Lord. I speak, and the word which I speak will come to pass . . .” (NKJV).

In the above verse, king Ahab had been warned.  A prophet by the name of Micaiah told him, “I saw all Israel scattered on the mountains, as sheep that have no shepherd. And the Lord said, ‘These have no master. Let each return to his house in peace’” (1 Kings 22:17, NKJV).  And previously Elijah prophesied, “In the place where dogs licked the blood of Naboth, dogs shall lick your blood, even yours” (1 Kings 21:19).  Yet, the warnings were ignored, and king Ahab entered the battle against Syria.

There, we see a bow drawn at “random” that hits an unbelievable target, in an unbelievable way, with unbelievable preciseness and accuracy.

Unbelievable?  Random?  I think not.

God will always accomplish what He has spoken.  The warnings may go unheeded but that will never negate the truth that if God said it is so, it is so.

Many false prophets in Ahab’s day stood and lied about the reality of the times they faced (1 Kings 22:21-23), and today, we witness many distortions of the truth.  Regardless of what one believes or says, what God says will happen, will happen, and nothing about it will be random.  With the same preciseness that allowed that arrow to hit its target, so too will the Word of God be fulfilled exactly.

What that means for us today is that we are to be even more earnest seekers of His Word, being all the more determined to follow what thus says the Lord.

In the days of Jesus, history unfolded before the people, and prophecies were fulfilled right before their eyes with extreme accuracy, and yet many people missed the message, the moving of God, the visitation of God (Luke 19:44).

Today, many more things are happening, and those things are happening exactly according to God’s Word.  Are we filling our hearts with the encouragements written within?  Are we heeding the present warnings and of the time to come?

What was prophesied for Ahab came to pass exactly as it was told: “So the king died, and was brought to Samaria. And they buried the king in Samaria.  Then someone washed the chariot at a pool in Samaria, and the dogs licked up his blood . . .” (1 Kings 22:37-38, NKJV).

With God, nothing is random.  Nothing is left to chance.  All will come to pass.  “Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away” (Matthew 24:35, NKJV).

Don’t miss what God is saying today.

“BELIEVE WHAT GOD SAYS. ALL WILL COME TO PASS!”

In the sixty-six books that make up the Bible,
there is one truth that stands forever: God’s
Word can always be trusted. God’s Word will
never fail to accomplish what it was purposed to
do. God’s Word will always be the absolute final
truth to every question in our life that needs an
answer. His word will fulfill every promise
spoken to His people.

Hold on, dear friends, to the promises of God
for they will all surely come to pass. The Bible
says, “So shall my word be that goeth forth out of
my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it
shall accomplish that which I please, and it
shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it,”
(Is. 55:11). Believe what God says.
All will come to pass.
