DECEMBER: The Rhythm of Reflection and Rest

Days upon us turn cold with
Embers in the fireplace aglow.
Calling us to the calm of winter’s sleep,
Evoking its own seasonal peace.
Many hearts at rest, and tucking in,
Beautifully enjoying the slow rhythm within.
Embracing the quiet of this flow,
Reflecting on the year past, anticipating new tomorrows.

While December comes with much celebrating of the season leading up to Christmas (and rightly so), and although there seems to be a lot of hustle and bustle surrounding it, may we take the time to truly enjoy this season with the beauty God gives us within. May our hearts tuck into the quietness of the days and reflect. Reflect on all the days of this year that are passing, and may we look forward with hope and expectation to the new that’s coming ahead.

Blessings ~

Good Morning, God… | Inspirational Poem

Good morning, God,
my hope is in You.
Even in the next step
when I’m lost what to do.

So, before You, I come.
Before You, I bow.
Before this day starts
I lay it all down.

To pray and to praise
before it all begins.
Your presence saturates
my heart within.

Filling me up
from the inside out,
carrying me through,
relieving all doubt.

Teaching me
before this day begins,
Who is my Source
that never ends.

Now, into this day
I confidently go,
for mornings shared
with Your presence in tow.

“O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee…” Psalm 63:1

Better Than

You are the Rock
that we lean upon.
Better than the
glory of the rising sun.

You are the great
I AM THAT I AM.
Better than Moses,
the prophets, and Abraham.

You are my praise,
my comfort, my shield.
Better than any source
this world reveals.

You are the hope
in my soul, do I trust.
Better than man or plan,
designed or discussed.

It is You to which
none can compare,
for You are better than
anyone, anywhere.

A lot of things
we can appreciate
but You, O God,
are better in every way.

Blessed be the name of the Lord from this time forth and for evermore.  From the rising of the sun unto the going down of the same the Lord‘s name is to be praised.  The Lord is high above all nations, and his glory above the heavens.” Psalm 113:2-4

Forasmuch as there is none like unto thee, O Lord; thou art great, and thy name is great in might.  Who would not fear thee, O King of nations? for to thee doth it appertain: forasmuch as among all the wise men of the nations, and in all their kingdoms, there is none like unto thee.” Jeremiah 10:6-7

I am the Lord, and there is none else, there is no God beside me: I girded thee, though thou hast not known me: That they may know from the rising of the sun, and from the west, that there is none beside me. I am the Lord, and there is none else.  I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the Lord do all these things.” Isaiah 45:5-7

The world calls out for our trust.  Man pleads for us to put confidence in him.  Even our own five senses beckon us to lean upon what we can feel, see, and touch.

But God is supremely better than them all.  He is the Utmost beyond our utmost, and none can top, come near, or replace the joy and treasure found in the greatness of our God who is just better than.

God’s Design | A Lesson from the Confident Bird

This morning, I saw
high in the tree,
a confident, little bird
looking down at me.

I thought, if that were me,
on the branches that swayed,
I would not be so confident.
I would be very afraid.

The bird looked at me,
as if to say,
he had no reason to fear,
for God made him this way.

To fly high, and conquer
heights unknown.
To soar was his gift,
upon the winds that blow.

What’s true for the bird,
is true for me too.
For I have gifts and talents,
special things I can do.

If the little bird was confident
in God’s designed plan,
I, too, can be sure
in God’s design for who I am.

“I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.” Psalm 139:14

“For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.” Ephesians 2:10

Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit.  And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord.  And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all.” 1 Corinthians 12:4-6

“The Winds are Shifting. . .”

Photo by Guillaume Meurice on Pexels.com

The winds are shifting.

The seasons do change.

Nothing stays still.

Nothing remains the same.

It’s good to look and ponder

what the shifting breezes bring

as the changing of the times

arrive boldly on the scene.

My heart, are you ready

for the season up ahead?

The soul prepared in faith

has nothing at all to dread.

On days, some are born.

On others, some see death.

The winds are shifting fast,

live life with no regrets.

Choose today to have

Christ in your life.

The winds are shifting

toward eternity,

among those heavenly heights.

“Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.” Matthew 24:44

My friend, the winds are shifting and the changing of the seasons in our life comes quickly. Let us be ready, in whatever season the Lord finds us, to go back to heaven with Him when He comes.

“So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.” Hebrews 9:28

“For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.” 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17

“When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.” Colossians 3:4

“The God Who Touches Me…”

The God who touches me is the God who loves me.
Saved, my sins He has thrown into the deep sea.

He carries my soul in His hand day by day.
He wraps His strength around me; my fortress, my stay.

He covers me in light that shields from the dark.
He is the armor that protects from all fiery darts.

He’s my Shepherd and the Lamb, who leads and sacrifice.
My safety; my salvation came at His high price.

The God who touches me cares beyond what we know.
His love on display is the grandest show.

In it we see eternity play out.
His best became our rest; no reason to doubt.

On His throne, He sits in heaven where we bow at the knee.
Never forsaking us, in His presence, till we are there home free.

The God who touches me, I reach out for Him too.
As the woman grabs His hem and is healed through and through.

To feel His virtue; His power; His love – it’s so real.
His Spirit overwhelms; on my heart is His seal.

Taking me to heights in heaven to know,
where for eternity I bask in His unimaginable glow.

“Despite It All!”

Despite my failings,
my shortcomings and shame.
Despite my choices
from which heartaches did rain.

 Despite the coldness
of my sometimes failing heart.
Despite the right path
of which I did depart.

 Despite the apples
on the tree.
Despite the way
my sin views me.

 Despite the world’s
proffered delicacies.
Despite the lies
on which I did feed.

 Despite it all,
despite the mess.
Despite the feeling
of total brokenness.

 He brought me out;
and for His glory,
restored me wholly,
magnifying His love story.

“Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit,” Psalm 51:12

“No Weapon!”

No weapon! It’s not hard to see,
Every one that’s formed, propelled against me.
It’s vanished, thrown into the dust.
It won’t prosper, in the Lord I trust.

I am fortified in the Holy Ghost.
Your condemning tongues falsify your boast.
Darts aimed, ready to take flight.
Target unreached, by His might.

Shielded in the heritage, I belong to the Lord.
Bought with a price I could not afford.
Redeemed and covered, renewed to excel.
All arrows and swords, He did dispel.

“No weapon formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn.  This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness is of me, saith the LORD,” Isaiah 54:17
