“Your Content Reads More Than Your Cover!”
“The LORD is with you mighty man of valor!” Judge 6:12, NKJV
We’ve all heard the phrase “Don’t judge a book by its cover.” It simply tells us that what we see on the outside doesn’t always accurately represent what’s on the inside. Books usually contain a lot of content within their pages and when one looks at the cover it is supposed to give an idea of that content. Sometimes covers can disappoint you. What they show can appear to be an exciting and promising read but when you get into the story it’s simply not so. And vice versa. Covers can inaccurately represent some great stuff on the inside while the outside seems to be dull and dreary.
Down through the years this phrase has been applied to people, and rightly so. As we treat book covers and their content is often how we view other people. We judge the outside without first getting acquainted with what’s written within. As in Gideon’s case, sometimes we apply this same judging standard to ourselves, not recognizing the promise and potential in our own person.
It’s not all about how we see ourselves – it’s how God sees us! God said, “Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee,” (Jer. 1:5, KJV). The psalmist said, “For You formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother’s womb,” (Ps. 139:13, NKJV). What both of these verses tells us is that God knows us better than we know ourselves. God can see inside of us where we can’t. God knows when we lay down and when we get up, Ps. 139:2. God knows everything about us and more!
As we do with other people we do with ourselves. We can only judge by what we see. God has often called and declared more for a person than they have seen in themselves. Abraham was going to be a father of multitudes though he had no son. God saw more! Joseph was going to reign as second in command over Egypt though he was the bane of his brother’s existence. God saw more! David, out in the field tending his father’s sheep and considered to be the least in the family rose to be Israel’s greatest king and deemed “A man after God’s own heart.” God saw more!
God sees more in each of us individually than we could ever imagine. You may think that you are lowly and not measuring up but God sees more. Like Gideon you might even feel as if you are the least, Judges 6:15. But God calls you “mighty!” God sees you as a force to be reckoned with! Someone that God can accomplish great feats through if you submit to His will. It’s all about what God says I am! Your content reads more than your cover. Be blessed today as you walk in this truth 🙂
“Singing in the Rain!”
Today, like most days here lately, it’s rainy, dreary and of the dismal sort. It’s the kind of cold, wet rain that settles down in your bones which you can’t seem to warm up from. It makes you want to crawl back under the covers and wait for a better day.
But real life is here with a call each and every day that must be answered, compelling us to rise and get going no matter what the weather is outside. Answering that call on a morning such as this, I remember one day when I drove across the highway to take my daughter to her college campus. On the way home I saw something that put a smile on my face. A man was walking in the rain with a bright orange raincoat. He was literally bouncing along with happiness in his steps. His mouth was moving and he appeared to be singing. It was as if he was dictating his day; as if he was telling the rain he was not going to let the dreariness get him down.
Oh, how true does that ring out in life? How many dreary situations have kept us from enjoying the day; from enjoying each and every moment God has given us above ground? Unfortunately, as life goes on we find that every day is not peaches and cream. Times of trouble and hardship can arouse the rainy day blues in anybody.
Psalm 137:4 asks, “How shall we sing the LORD’S song in a strange land?” How many times have we felt it hard to work up the happiness inside when going through difficult times? But Psalm 43:5 declares, “Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God.”
In other words, Sing in the Rain!
I feel like getting on board with the attitude of the guy in the orange raincoat. There you can catch me Singing in the Rain today, too. After all, we still have a reason to praise God no matter what. My hope for this day and every day is in Him.
God Bless!

My Prayer Today:
“A Prayer for Today . . .”
Father God,
We don’t always understand why we have to hurt the way we do. We don’t always know the reason behind suffering, anguish and pain. But, Father, one thing we do know is You are sovereign. Every tear that we cry and every sorrow that pierces our heart, You know all about it. We struggle with the if’s, and’s and but’s, but You are He who knows the beginning from the end and the right now’s of this life. Even when we don’t fully comprehend it all, let us find our trust and our peace in You.
Please touch and bless the bereaved families everywhere on today. Comfort the brokenhearted and set the captives free. Cast off yokes of heaviness and let the hurting feel Your presence in the midst of the pain. Cover and protect Your people, O God, in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, we pray, Amen!
“The LORD is My Light and My Salvation!”
In His Presence!
“You have been upheld since birth!”
“By You I have been upheld from birth; You are He who took me out of my mother’s womb. My praise shall be continually of You,” Psalm 71:6, NKJV
As you look back over your life, is there ever a time when you know you should not have made it? Is there a time when you recognize that it was only by the grace of God that you are still here today?
Yeah, me too!
Life has a way of throwing us many curve balls. Sometimes we hit it and sometimes we miss. Sometimes we are even awesome enough to get a home run, whereas at other times we would just be grateful to still be in the game. The fact that we are is a testimony to the love of the Father on us. It is evident that He still has you and me in His hands.
There are times that come that make it extremely hard for us to recognize this great truth. Crushing times that weigh on us making us believe that we are forgotten or that we are walking this path alone. Nothing could be further from the truth. God has always been with us. God has always taken care of us. God has always been the one holding on to us when our lives seem to be spinning out of control.
I find it utterly amazing that we have been upheld since birth. Truth be told, Psalm 139:16 shows us that He was paying attention to us even before the time of our birth. It says, “Your eyes have seen my unformed substance; And in Your book were all written the days that were ordained for me, When as yet there was not one of them,” (NASB). Even before day 1 of our lives, God had His eye on us.
How awesome is that? I find great comfort in verses like these because I realize that yes; I have gone through some very difficult and troubling times. Yes, as I look back through the different stages of life I wish things could have been better or I wish wrong choices could be undone. But, despite all the “I wish I had . . .” or the “could haves and should haves,” these verses remind me that I never walked alone. There was never a time in my life that God didn’t see me and didn’t see what I was going through. There was never a time when He was absent; rather, He was there with His hands on me, cradling me with His love.
God’s hands have always been us!
I don’t know what you may be facing today but the Word of God is sure in all it promises and His Word promises that you are not alone. Yet, sometimes it does seem that way. It seems like you cry and cry and cry some more, but your tears do not fall on deaf ears. As you cry, the one who has had His hands on you since birth feels the flow of your tears running over His hands as He holds you.
Trust Him who has you in His hands today. Be blessed.
“The Lord is on my Side!”
Oh, the grace of another day. Yet, every day is not peachy, rather often with it comes turmoil, upset, and unrest. Sometimes, battling the seen and the unseen. Sometimes, fighting to keep one’s spiritual head above the waters of this life that seek to take you under. Oh, the peace to know that despite it all, the Lord is on my side.
If you’ve ever gone to the circus, one of the most impressive feats to witness in the performances there are the trapeze acts. It never seems to lose its awesomeness as we watch men and women fly through the air with what appears to be a complete disregard for life and limb. Actually, it is quite the opposite. They fly through the air with abandon because of the trust they exhibit in their partner to be by their side and to catch them at that pivotal moment; to catch them when it matters most. There is an awesome relationship of trust that goes on between the two. One that neither can doubt in lest the outcome be less than desirable.
What about our relationship with God? Do we exhibit the same trust in Almighty God that these acrobats seem to place in human confidence? Do we sport the confidence that He is by our side to catch us when we need Him the most?
Sometimes it may feel like you are in the boxing ring alone. Well, you’re not! Sometimes it may appear that you are fighting armies that encamp against you by yourself. You’re not! God is on our side and He promised to never leave us nor forsake us, Hebrews 13:5.
Daily, we are upheld by Him! Our lives are not in our own hands rather in the hands of Him that never fails! We may swing to and fro, sometimes feeling up and sometimes down, yet He is the ever-present strength that keeps us flying high above all these adversities, above all these troubles, above all these trappings of this world.
Difficulties will arise. Oh yes, they will. But, Jesus said, “These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world,” John 16:33. In other words, He is on our side. He is our overcomer. He is our victor. He is our deliverer that will see us past all that is presently before us that we might experience the peace that He so offers.
“Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid,” John 14:27. Some may say this is easier said than done especially when the upsets of life seem to be all around and the strength to carry on, well, it’s just plain hard to find. You’re exhausted! I get it. God gets it.
That’s why His Word declares and reminds every one of us, we don’t have to carry on on our own. The Lord is on your side. You are not in this alone. This is the message of the whole Bible. No matter how dim, gloomy and bleak it may seem, we are not in this alone. We have a Strength that is beyond our human capabilities. We have a Force fighting for us that cannot be reckoned with by human standards. We have the one and only true God and He is on our side!
Who are you flying with today? Secure your life in Him, let go and know that “The LORD is on my side,” Psalm 118:6. Trust Him, He will catch the life that honestly reaches out for Him, trusts, and believes.
