The True Treasure

What if the treasure our hearts truly long for isn’t buried in sand—but found in the presence of God?

When I was a young girl, I was always fascinated by the idea of those who walked along the beaches or through parks with metal detectors in their hands.

I remember wanting one so badly for myself.

You could see them sway their device this way and that, back and forth, ever searching until the beeping intensified, signaling that something had been found.

Sometimes, that “something” was trash. But then there were those times when that beeping from the search led to true treasure.

For millennia, mankind has searched oceans, caves, pits, deserts, mountains, ruins, rivers, and more in search of treasure. Fascinating books have been written, inspiring the imagination of many with the adventure of finding some grand, undiscovered treasure.

And while they may be fun to read, taking us for a wild flight into fantasy, when the story ends, the adventure ends with it—and nothing remains to truly satisfy.

Where is the hope in that?

Vain is the search that leads only to temporary treasures—today’s trappings that offer no lasting satisfaction.

Jesus promised something different for the diligent searchers of the true Treasure:

“The kingdom of heaven is like unto treasure hid in a field; the which when a man hath found, he hideth, and for joy thereof goeth and selleth all that he hath, and buyeth that field.

Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a merchant man, seeking goodly pearls:

Who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had, and bought it.” Matthew 13:44-46

The search here, and the treasures found, were so grand and valuable, the response was to do all one had to do to buy that field or obtain that pearl.

Jesus said, “The kingdom of heaven is like…” that.

In true, parable form, He described ideas or treasures in a way they could easily understand. Then, He put this spin on it.

The Kingdom of Heaven is the most precious treasure one could hope to have. But it will only be enjoyed by those who do their diligent search. Those who know its value and have made up their minds that they cannot live without it – without Him.

God sent this encouraging word to the Babylonian captives by the mouth of Jeremiah:

“And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart” Jeremiah 29:13.

Sadly, when many read Jeremiah 29, they stop at verse 11 and set up camp there. And while, yes, God had a future promise of peace for His people, the greatest joy and satisfaction they or we will ever experience will come at the end of a heart that had made its diligent search to know God and draw nearer to Him.

When David wrote Psalm 16, he, too, exclaimed this truth, saying,

“In thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures forevermore” (v. 11).

Anything short of the Kingdom of Heaven. Anything outside of the presence of God will eventually always come up empty. No matter what we find, no matter where we place our energy, “fulness of joy” can only be found in His presence.

Fulness means that with nothing lacking, there is no more reason for searching. God, our heavenly Father, is the answer for all the searching. Only in Him will you find your true treasure.

Father God, it is You we need above all else. When our attention is swaying back and forth like that metal detector, remind us that You are the true treasure, and that we don’t have to search for another. In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, we pray, AMEN!

Friend, what has your attention today? When the pages of your life’s story close, where will you find yourself?

May your heart rest from vain searching and set its affections on the Father who only can give you “fulness of joy.”

In Christ, the adventure never stops. We get to share in His treasure for all eternity.

Before the chaos of the day begins, take a moment to reflect on your true treasure and journal your thoughts here.
Blessings~

Psalm 46:10, Be still and know that I am God, encouraging verse, woman, farm, reading Bible

Spending my life getting to know God…

Spending my life getting to know God…

My friends, because that’s what it will take, and more. There is not one day, nor one year, nor one life that can learn the totality of our great God on this side of heaven. The Scriptures tell us He is “unsearchable” (Psalm 145:3) and that His ways are “past finding out” (Romans 11:33). What a joy and a privilege to spend these days we are given here to draw nearer still. What an honor to be given the invitation to come.  Oh, blessed one, we have been given a great gift by the Father of being called one of His own. May we live our days for Him and in getting to know Him more.

The greatest thing we could ever have is a solid relationship with God.  Fortifying that comes by taking the time to get to know Him better:

Thus saith the Lord, Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches: But let him that glorieth glory in this, that he understandeth and knoweth me, that I am the Lord which exercise lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness, in the earth: for in these things I delight, saith the Lord,” (Jeremiah 9:23-24; emphasis mine).

“There are a lot of things we can be frugal with, but faith isn’t one of them.  Jesus, in the Lord’s Prayer, called us to pray for ‘daily bread’ (Matthew 6:11).  Every morning we are reminded of our need for God, to pursue Him more, and again.  As a tummy rumbling for morning nourishment, we are drawn to come to Him and be spiritually satisfied.” (Every Morning|Pursuing God Daily/©WordforLifeSays)

“And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.” Jeremiah 29:13

“I love them that love me; and those that seek me early shall find me.” Proverbs 8:17

“For he satisfieth the longing soul, and filleth the hungry soul with goodness.” Psalm 107:9

“Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you…” James 4:8

Both Small and Great

Friend, it is the soul’s consolation to know that when we come before our Heavenly Father, there is no turning away because of background or social status. Lineage is not a prerequisite to being called His and to receive His blessings, nor is one’s economic standing. The only requirement is to believe and trust in Him, knowing that no matter who you are or where you hail from, “He will bless them that fear the Lord, both small and great” (Psalm 115:13).

Pray, Pray, and Pray Some More | A 1 Minute Word of Encouragement

Thank You, God, that You have given us this position of prayer, this place of power where we can not only lay our burdens down but also intercede for others in our lives. We can pray for the unsaved status of souls, petition heaven for healing or hurts, and seek answers for the help we need. A place where God, our Heavenly Father, has given us permission to come and unload it all before His holy throne.

When we fall on our knees, we fall before the only true King of all eternity. In that place, we open our hearts and pray.

Therefore, don’t stop. Pray, pray, and pray some more. Never give up. God hears and is attentive to the praying heart of His children: “𝓑𝓾𝓽 𝓿𝓮𝓻𝓲𝓵𝔂 𝓖𝓸𝓭 𝓱𝓪𝓽𝓱 𝓱𝓮𝓪𝓻𝓭 𝓶𝓮; 𝓱𝓮 𝓱𝓪𝓽𝓱 𝓪𝓽𝓽𝓮𝓷𝓭𝓮𝓭 𝓽𝓸 𝓽𝓱𝓮 𝓿𝓸𝓲𝓬𝓮 𝓸𝓯 𝓶𝔂 𝓹𝓻𝓪𝔂𝓮𝓻. “Study Him!”

“The works of the LORD are great, studied by all who have pleasure in them,” Psalm 111:2, NKJV

Why such doubt?  Why such confusion?  Have you studied Him?  Have you studied the works of our God?

Open your understanding to the truth of who He is.  Open, and expand your knowledge of our Heavenly Father.  Seek Him, and search Him out.  As the greatest treasure that is to be found, don’t stop digging till you have unearthed His glorious truths.

“His work is honorable and glorious, and His righteousness endures forever,” (Psalm 111:3, NKJV).  So, dig deep, my friends, and find Him for yourself.

Look through His holy pages and see Him.  See what He has done.  See the testimonies of the lives that have walked in those written lines.  See the things He performed in them and through them.  See what He continues to do even in this day.  See, and believe.

For where the truth of this treasure is, it leaves no room for doubt and confusion.  Truth eats up the empty spaces that make room for lies.

Therefore, study Him.  Let not your appetite be quenched by the false junk and ideologies of this age.  Take your fill of God, our Father.  Learn of Him.  Explore Him, and you will not only be satisfied with that which nourishes for all eternity, but you will enter an abundant adventure of a lifetime today (John 10:10).

It’s there, in those pages of the Bible.  Seek Him.  He’s not hiding from you.  Study Him, and enrich your own life further and deeper than you could have ever imagined.

“He has made His wonderful works to be remembered . . .” Psalm 111:4, NKJV

God, You Are the One I Seek

“Let us continue to go and pray before the LORD, and seek the LORD of hosts,” Zechariah 8:21, NKJV.

Hope can be found at the beginning, in the middle, and at the end of each prayer. Never give up on seeking God. Never feel like you can’t approach Him in prayer. Take every burden, every question of life, and every situation continually to His throne.

Worship Can’t Wait!

“From the first day of the seventh month began they to offer burnt offerings unto the LORD.  But the foundation of the temple of the LORD was not yet laid.” Ezra 3:6

Our drive to have everything perfect often gets in the way of progress. Sometimes certain things just need to be left alone so that other, more important things can be done right now. Continuing to put it off will only be more of a hindrance. As they say, there is no time like the present. And this is how the returning captives from Babylon felt. They had been out of proper worship of God for quite some time. Things were not as they should be, but they were moving in the right direction. Offerings were being restored. People’s hearts were being moved to draw closer to God. The spiritual hunger was there and now was the time to do what needed to be done even if other things were not in their proper place yet.

Worship can’t wait.  Drawing closer to God can’t wait. Getting hearts realigned with God can’t wait.  Restoring fellowship and bringing back the service of the LORD could not wait for the foundation of the temple to be laid. It was vital for them to eventually get the building back in shape the way it needed to be, but it was even more important to deal with their hearts first.  The foundation of the physical building can be laid later, but the foundation of the spiritual building needs to be laid immediately.  The Apostle Paul taught us, “Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?” (1 Corinthians 3:16).  This takes precedence over all else.

We all have a mountain of things to face each day and/or an extensive to-do list. And they are real things that need to be done – eventually. But what comes first? Or, should I say, who comes first? There is no substitute for showing God He has priority in your worship, in your life, and in your heart:

  • “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” – Matthew 6:33
  • “In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” – Proverbs 3:6
  • “Sow to yourselves in righteousness, reap in mercy; break up your fallow ground: for it is time to seek the Lord, till he come and rain righteousness upon you.” – Hosea 10:12, emphasis added
  • “Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us.” – Hebrews 12:1, emphasis added
  • “Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.” – Psalm 46:10

It just cannot wait!

What are you seeking today?

What are you seeking today? Life throws a lot of hard stuff our way; some things are harder than others. The answers aren’t always that easy to find, but if you will look to God, SEEK HIM in the midst of it all, I believe He’s right there listening.

“But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” Matthew 6:33

“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.” Matthew 7:7

“Your Hearts Shall Live!”

your hearts shall live - pagemodo pic

“And you who seek God, your hearts shall live,” Psalm 69:32

How many go through their day complacent in the status quo?  No passion for life.  No zeal for better.  Just run the ordinary course of the ordinary life jogger, following the crowd, content with a heart that’s just beating but not alive.

A heart that is alive thrills at the unknown.  A heart that is alive craves to pump its life source throughout every crevice of its being.  Those who seek for God are not content with just the rhythmic beat of every other man.  It wants to thump against the chest wall to express the life that lives in it.

When one seeks God it stirs up something on the inside of them.  It stirs a wanting of more.  Kind of like a first love.  You seek to be near that person or to simply hear their voice.  When contact is made it makes the heart beat a little faster and you feel alive!  God promises those that look for Him with that same passion your hearts shall live.  Your heart will tell a story all its own about the love that dwells in it for the one you seek.

Jesus said, “I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly,” (John 10:10).  He wants hearts alive; hearts that live for seeking Him more and more.  From that they will reap not the status quo rather an abundance of life that flows from Him.  If the beat of your heart is a little slower these days, or your faith is not getting as excited as it used at the first, check to see who or what you have been seeking after.  It may be that you have been looking for love, acceptance and passion everywhere but the right place.  But, we have this promise, “you who seek God, your hearts shall live!”
