Wisdom’s Ways | Words to Live By

They say 10,000 steps a day helps to promote a healthier you. How healthier would our inner man be if our daily steps, our daily living, were marked by wisdom’s ways?

Let God’s Grace Work

Let God’s grace work in the lives of others as He has once worked in your life.

Once, we were without understanding in many areas of life, including the spiritual aspects of life.

There was a time when we didn’t see things as we do now.ย  Growth will do that for you.ย  Over time, seeds of change are planted in your life and with the proper soil conditions, they grow and flourish, teaching you, revealing to you, and molding you and me into a better you and me.

How quickly are we to point the finger, verbally or silently, at those who are still struggling to understand?ย  The place of judging others does not belong to us (Romans 14:4; James 4:12).

We must have patience with our fellow man and remember where we once were and His grace that brought us to this day.ย  Pray for others as they are still trying to find their footing in this life.

Wherefore remember, that ye being in time past Gentiles in the flesh, who are called Uncircumcision by that which is called the Circumcision in the flesh made by hands;

That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world:

But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ.” Ephesians 2:11-13

Did you catch that first phrase of that last verse?ย  But now…

Remember, we didn’t bring ourselves salvation.ย  Remember, we weren’t always what we are today.ย  Remember, it was Christ’s blood that saved us.ย  His grace did the work that we couldn’t do or didn’t deserve.

Let us show the same grace to others today as God is working on them too.

Living on the other side of failure . . .

“Be ye therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful.” – Luke 6:36

Living on the other side of failure, we all know what that feels like. We have all experienced those times when we messed up, sometimes, royally so. Those times when we have hurt others or done wrong. We all know what it’s like to let others down, or even ourselves.

So today, can we work a little harder at extending grace to others? Can we work a little harder at showing the same forgiving love we have received?

Sometimes, I have to remind myself that “all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23), and yes, that includes me. I am included in the all. Should I not then, as one who has received so much, be willing to grace it to another life?

The simple answer is, I should.

Am I perfect at it? I so wish I could say yes, but I’m not.

Daily I have to work on me, and in that working, I am so glad for God’s continually patient hand in my life. Would I have been as longsuffering with me as He has?

I doubt it.

Therefore, I am continually reminded of my dependence on His sure mercies every day – and in that reminding, may I see that others need the same from me.

Love others.

Be patient with others.

Give grace to others.

For these are the same riches you have received from the Father above. And these riches, you can afford to give away.

“Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.” – Matthew 5:7

“Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering; Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.” – Colossians 3:12-13

“For he shall have judgment without mercy, that hath shewed no mercy; and mercy rejoiceth against judgment.” – James 2:13

Elderly Wisdom: Dedicated to those who have tested the waters before us.

elderly wisdom 2

One of the greatest treasures I had afforded to me when I became a born-again Christian was the elder mothers of the church.ย  These beautiful women of God were literal โ€œmother hens.โ€ย  They fussed over you to make sure you felt loved and welcomed.ย  They also helped to care for your soul and life, advising on everything from child care, a strong prayer life, respecting your husband, and yes, even your appearance.

Many balk at the idea of it today but these women with their wisdom were beautiful lights of God shining the way for the next generation.ย  Sadly, we donโ€™t see very much of this โ€œmotheringโ€ anymore.ย  Is it because they are absent or is it because the next generation is so rebellious, and in their own proposed โ€œwisdomโ€ refuse to hear and be led?ย  Maybe itโ€™s a little of both.ย  Whatever the cause there is a definite void in the spot they used to fill.

Elderly wisdom is a treasure unlike the words we read in books.ย  Itโ€™s a life of experience that takes time to sit with you and care for you just to invest in your future.ย  Elderly wisdom has seen it all and has been through it all and can show you the paths to walk that they have already tested ahead of you.

Their words are not to be shunned or taken lightly with a roll of the eyes.ย  With a life well lived, they have nothing to lose by telling you the truth of how it is and how it should be.ย  Deaf ears be wary of missing their words for it may be the sentence where you find hope, healing, and direction to stay on the right path.

When Rehoboam, in the Bible, rejected the advice of elderly wisdom (1Kings 12:8), and rather heeded the advice of his buddies whom he grew up with, the kingdom divided and the people went astray.ย

The Bible tells us, โ€œWith the ancient is wisdom; and in length of days understanding,โ€ (Job 12:12).ย  They have fruit in themselves that has been tasted and tried and can pass on the good seed of it.ย  Therefore, they are deserving of our respect and honor (Leviticus 19:32) for their years of life and service to Godโ€™s people.

To all the elderly, those old loving mothers and wise men, who helped me to be what I am today โ€“ Thank you!ย  I love you and miss you dearly.ย  Your years were, and still are, a treasure to be held by all.ย
