“I AM FREE TO WORSHIP!”

free to worship

As we enter into His gates on this Sunday morning with thanksgiving and into His courts with praise, we are reminded of the cost that bought our freedom. We praise Him and worship Him! He delivered us, saved us, and brought us through. Shackles are loosed.  Chains are broken and, now we are FREE TO WORSHIP!
Worship is our honor and privilege.  Therefore, we:
“Sing unto the LORD, all the earth; shew forth from day to day his salvation.  Declare his glory among the heathen; his marvellous works among all nations. FOR GREAT IS THE LORD, AND GREATLY TO BE PRAISED: he also is to be feared above all gods.  For all the gods of the people are idols: but the LORD made the heavens.  GLORY AND HONOUR ARE IN HIS PRESENCE; strength and gladness are in his place.  Give unto the LORD, ye kindreds of the people, give unto the LORD glory and strength. GIVE UNTO THE LORD THE GLORY DUE UNTO HIS NAME: bring an offering, and come before him: WORSHIP THE LORD IN THE BEAUTY OF HOLINESS.  Fear before him, all the earth: the world also shall be stable, that it be no moved.  Let the heavens be glad, and the let the earth rejoice: and LET MEN SAY AMONG THE NATIONS, THE LORD REIGNETH.” (1 Chronicles 16:23-31).

“Holy Ground”

holy ground

Stepping into the sacred.  Moses found at one cannot tread the presence of God with a heavy foot.  Lightly and gingerly, with reverence, one must approach with a surrendered heart.

God has since, through our Lord Jesus Christ, come to dwell in the recesses of the believing.  To live inside him/her that were created in His image and are now filled with His Spirit.  How then do we care for those courts where His presence resides?  Are the members being yielded to sin or are they carefully following the path of His leading; preserving the holy and persevering for the right?  Where ever He is, it is holy ground.

Let not the days go in a blur that we forget the treasure we now hold inside.  Radiating from our inner most being we, who are called by His name, should feel His unction and pulling, urging us toward the right.  He, through His love, pleads for us to not carry His sacred assembly to places of spiritual danger, toil, and sin.

Mark the value in you.  Raise it up as a standard to keep oneself in the midst of His delight; in the joy of His salvation, bearing about in you the body of our Lord.  The holy ground inside you screams to be cherished and protected.  There is sacredness in where He now dwells.

“And he said, Draw not nigh hither: put off thy shoes from off thy feet, for the place whereon thou standest is holy ground.” Exodus 3:5

“Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are.” 1 Corinthians 3:16-17

Poem – “Before”

Before . . .
Before any pain . . .
Before any disappointments . . .
Before any tragedies and hurts . . .
Before any suffering . . .
Before any upsets . . .
Before any misunderstandings and curse . . .

God knew you and formed you and created you to be,
a child victorious; sanctified to lead.

What you see right now is not all there is,
God designed you with potential for such a time as this.

He created and filled you with anointing for the task.
don’t let what you see make you question and ask,
“Is this me? Do I make a difference? What’s the point of it all?”
You have it in you to succeed; to climb mountains so tall.

Believe more in His design of your life
over any proposed animosity and strife.
Believe His perfect plan for your life will win out –
therefore, shhh . . .  silence the voice of doubt.

He formed you; He knew you; He brought you to be.
Go ahead and claim it – you’re a child of victory!
“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you . . .” – Jeremiah 1:5, NKJV

“My Redeemer Lives!”

When fear surrounds
And questions lurk
And doubt becomes
A prevalent force.
When troubles prevail
And night overtakes day,
And my times feel lost,
At the end of my course.

When hope slips, memories fade,
I grab hold to pull You near;
To hear what You have to say.
My Redeemer lives are the words I read,
The whispers that encourage
The strength to stay.

Sitting in the ashes and dust.
Friends, miserable comforters
In companions, no trust.
Alone and desolate,
Vacant from a touch of love,
My eyes raise in prayer
Seeking from Him that is above.

Back down on the pages
In Your Word, I read,
My Redeemer lives –
Someone somewhere is thinking about me.
A revelation to encourage,
A truth to behold,
My Redeemer lives, there I am told.

Guess what, all hope is not lost!
Though turbulent waves crash
And my life feels tossed.

Shine down, O Savior, I pray,
When my understanding fails.
Lift me from this dusty sorrow.
Let Your might, Your love, Your truth prevail
Bless my soul, O My Hope for tomorrow.

“Decorated in Glory”

my reward is with me

Being called to the front of the assembly to receive awards of excellence was one of my greatest joys in my private elementary school.  One year I excelled in every category so instead of receiving multiple name calls of recognition – I was given one all-encompassing award.  I remember not liking it one bit.  An over-all award meant specifics were not being named in from of my peers and others and I didn’t have the pleasure of playing the role of jack-in-the-box in my seat with my constant popping up and down to receive individual accomplishments.

As we get older in life we realize every achievement does not need to come with applause or recognition (at least, not here on earth anyway).  But, in heaven, your works are going to be rewarded.  You and I are going to be decorated in glory.  These rags of humanity will be replaced with robes of righteousness.  As a soldier being medaled for victories, we shall be adorned and dressed in the finest of the heavenlies, telling our story of overcoming.  We made it through and now He speaks, “My reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be,” Revelation 22:12.

Take heart.  What you do today may escape the notice of man but the eye of the Lord sees it all.  And, when we get to that heavenly city we will have all the recognition we will ever need.  For it is there we receive the greatest thing no earthly prize can give: “Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord,” Matthew 25:21, 23.

And, that’s all the glory one needs to be decorated with.

Devotion – Dealing with Failure

dealing with failure

I don’t know about you but have failed at so many things in life.  If I would begin to go down the list and check off all the goof-ups, blunders, and short-comings it would tell a story most don’t get to see on the outside.  In every area of life, be it marriage, raising children, my relationship with God, or whatever – there is a mark of imperfection there, a blemish on my record.

Failure is one of those things that are hard to overcome for some.  Mess-ups have a way of smearing defeat in one’s face making them feel that there will never be a space for recovery and restoration.

The children of Israel had a propensity of straying from the will of God and messing up on several occasions (actually more than several but who are we to judge).  Knowing their history, when Solomon was praying at the temple dedication, he included a plea for restoration from the sins and mistakes of the people.  He prayed,

“When thy people Israel be smitten down before the enemy, because they have sinned against thee, and shall turn again to thee, and confess thy name, and pray, and make supplication unto thee in this house:

Then hear thou in heaven, and forgive the sin of thy people Israel, and bring them again unto the land which thou gavest unto their fathers.” (1 Kings 8:33-34)

In the above verses, we see a pattern to deal with defeat: 1) Pray and confess the wrong or mistake; 2) Let God restore.  Now listen, even if what one has “failed” at does not necessarily qualify as sin, such as one may wish they had spoken better to someone else or, in hindsight one realizes they could have put more effort on a project or, it was just an honest mistake of accidentally overlooking something or someone – whatever the cause innocent or not, I believe the same model that King Solomon laid out can be applied to just about every situation.

Point number one: Any mistake, honest and innocent to sin and wrong doing, can be taken to the Lord in prayer.  1 Peter 5:6-7 says, “Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.”  Not just your worries and disappointments, but every care that deals with situations that make one say, “Boy, I sure messed that up.  Now what?”

Taking things to God in prayer allows Him to work on your case and opens up the doors of grace to be released in one’s life.  Which leads to the second point: let God restore and work on your case.  Solomon’s prayer said, “Bring them again unto the land,” which speaks of the opportunity to set things straight and start over; another chance to experience recovery of the Lord’s healing over the situation.

God specializes in fixing the broken and healing what others thought was impossible.  Trust Him with everything that is bothering you and let Him work it out.

If the cause of failure is due to sin, confess it and get rid of it (seek spiritual counsel from a pastor or leader for help).  If one has made a mistake that’s keeping you bound in doubt, pray for His deliverance even in this.  God is standing at the ready to repair the brokenness and bring healing to the land.

Rejoice not against me, O mine enemy: when I fall, I shall arise; when I sit in darkness, the LORD shall be a light unto me,” (Micah 7:8).

“For God so loved the work, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved,” (John 3:16-17).
